For WooCommerce / updates
Updates that can't break your checkout.
After each plugin or theme update, Tadrik Safe Updates places a test order through your checkout. If checkout stopped working, it puts the old version back within seconds and emails you what broke.
Made for developers, freelancers and agencies who look after client stores, and for owners who update their own.
Free plugin, version 0.1.0. Everything runs on your own store. No outside service.
01 / How it works
Every update gets a test order. A broken one gets undone.
It watches updates from the Plugins and Updates screens, bulk updates, WordPress's automatic background updates, and WP-CLI.
Saves a copy
Before an update, it saves a zip of the version you have now. If a copy can't be saved, it can stop the update. That is a setting, and it is on by default.
Copy of the old version saved → update runsTests the checkout
After the update, it places a test order and compares the result with the test from before the update.
Test order placed → deleted seconds laterPuts it back if it broke
If something that worked before has stopped, the previous version is restored within seconds and you get an email saying what broke. Automatic updates skip that broken version, and the Plugins screen warns before you install it by hand. A newer version is updated and tested as usual.
PayPal missing → old version back02 / The test
The test follows the same path a shopper does.
It loads your own pages and places the order the same way the block checkout does. That tests the path an order takes, not just whether the site loads.
- Loads the home page
- Adds a hidden test item to a cart
- Opens the checkout page
- Reads the cart the way the checkout block does
- Places a test order through the Store API, the route the block checkout uses
- Checks the payment methods offered at checkout are still there
Run after the update and compared with the same run before it.
- Safe for your store
- The test order is paid with a test payment method that only exists inside the test. It takes no money, sends no email and no webhook, and is deleted seconds later. Shoppers can never see or buy the test item.
- Payment methods
- If an update makes PayPal or bank transfer disappear from the checkout, that counts as broken.
- No false alarms
- A check only counts if it passed before the update. Quirks of your particular store don't cause a rollback.
- Daily check
- Optional. Runs the checkout test once a day and emails you when something has stopped working.
- Your data
- There is no outside service. Everything runs on the store itself.
03 / What it can't do
Read this before you rely on it.
- Browser errors
- It does not see errors that only happen in the browser (JavaScript). The test doesn't run in a browser, so a checkout that loads fine but breaks on the shopper's screen can still pass.
- Real cards
- It doesn't charge a real card. It only tests with its own test payment method.
- WooCommerce itself
- WooCommerce is tested after an update, but never rolled back, because its updates change the database. If something broke, you get an email instead.
- The database
- A rollback restores files, not the database.
04 / Get it

Straight answers.
Does it touch my real orders or send emails to my customers?
No. The test order is paid with a test payment method that only exists inside the test. It takes no money, sends no email and no webhook, and is deleted seconds later. Shoppers can never see or buy the hidden test item. Any email it sends goes to you, not to your customers.
What if my host blocks the store from loading its own pages?
Then the test can't run. Nothing is rolled back, and you get an email telling you the test didn't run. Some hosts block this. If yours does, ask them to allow the site to load its own pages.
What does it not catch?
Errors that only happen in the browser (JavaScript), and anything that only shows up with a real card, because it never charges one. It also doesn't roll back WooCommerce or undo database changes. The full list is under What it can't do.
Does it work with the block checkout?
Yes. It works with the block checkout and with the classic checkout, and with HPOS. For the block checkout, the test reads the cart the way the block does and places its order through the Store API, the same route the block uses.
What about WooCommerce updates?
After a WooCommerce update it runs the same test. If something broke, it does not roll WooCommerce back, because WooCommerce updates change the database and a rollback restores files only. You get an email instead, so you can decide what to do.
Is it free?
Yes. The plugin is free, and it has no outside service to pay for. Pro for agencies is coming; ask to be told when it is out.
Have your next update tested before your customers find out.
Upload the free plugin to your store. From then on, every plugin and theme update gets a test order.
